February 24th, 2010

Date change!! Due to the volume of things going on at the library in March the library will be holding their Spring Fling Book Sale in April instead! Thursday, April 22nd through Saturday, April 24th, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. you can stop in and fill up on bags of books for just a buck for a bag! We have thousands of materials to sell from fiction to movies on DVD and VHS, as well as children’s books of all kinds. Accompanying the Book Sale will also be an awesome Bake Sale! So bring along some extra change to grab some goodies after you shop the Book Sale!

Speaking of goodies, Eccles-Lesher Memorial Library will soon be selling Daffins Candy Bars! We’ve ordered Milk Chocolate, Crispy, Peanut Butter, and Caramel candy bars to help us raise money for materials we need. Satisfy your sweet tooth while supporting your local library!

On February 1st, 2010, the library started selling 50/50 Raffle Tickets to help raise money! Tickets will run one for a dollar or a sweet deal of 6 tickets for only $5! In a 50/50 Raffle the money earned is split down the middle, half going to the library and the other half going to a lucky ticket buyer! Stop in and tell your friends! Who couldn’t use a chance to win a little extra cash? The winner will be announced Saturday, April 24th during our Spring Fling Book Sale Event! Buy up as many chances as you can! Also be on the lookout for members of our Friends of the Library group! These lovely ladies have tickets for our 50/50 Raffle as well as tickets for subs from the Rimersburg Deli & Bakery. The proceeds from the sub sales help the library offset the State budget cuts we’ve experienced this year and enable us to purchase supplies for programs.

Pennsylvania State Tax Forms have finally arrived at the library! If you’ve been waiting for yours just stop on down and pick them up. We also have 2009 Rent Rebates as well. They took a while to get here but better late than never!

Rimersburg Parking Permits are available here at Eccles-Lesher Memorial Library. Cost is $25 for one year. Just ask at the Circulation Desk.

Children’s programs are up and running! Come to Mother Goose Time on Monday mornings at 11 a.m. or bring the kids to Story Time on Thursdays at 11 a.m. We do ask that parents stay for the programs, that way if children need to use the restroom or any other situation, mom or dad (or other guardian) is there to help them!

Don’t forget to check out the Eccles-Lesher Memorial Library blog at http://eccles-lesher.blogspot.com/ for updates on new materials added to the library, program updates, or to view the library’s monthly calendar which is located at the very bottom of the page. This calendar lists the programs the library holds, meetings being held in the library Community Room, days the library is closed and more!

The next Friends of the Library meeting will be held on Monday, March 8th, 2010, at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of the library. So far this year our wonderful Friends group has been working hard to sell Raffle Tickets and Subs from the Rimersburg Deli & Bakery to help us raise funds, as well as spread awareness about the library to the surrounding community. We thank them for their efforts and hope to see a few new faces at the next meeting! All ages are welcome!

Series Highlight: The Special Crime Unit series

This month's series highlight is the Special Crimes Unit series by Kay Hooper.

The Special Crimes Unit is an unique division of the FBI, which uses psychics to investigate. The newest entry into the series is Blood Ties. (Seen on the bottom shelf, on the right above).

Blood Ties is the 9th book about this unit, and although it could be read as a stand alone, it makes frequent reference to the previous books in the series and in fact, is footnoted as to what book the events being mentioned were in. Although an entertaining entry in the series, it is not recommended as an introduction to the series. It is highly recommended that the book be read only after reading all the others first.

February 10th, 2010

This winter we have been vigorously streamlining our collection of materials and saving the items we withdraw to include with our generous donations of items to hold a Spring Fling Book Sale! Save the dates of Thursday, March 25th through Saturday, March 27th to come down and take advantage of this three day, super cheap event! Our ever popular Buck-A-Bag policy will be in effect for all three days, allowing you to stuff as many great books, movies, etc. into a bag as you can and we’ll only ask you for $1 for all of it! If you have items you think people would ‘adopt’ that you would like to donate to our cause to raise money please bring them down! We are also adding a Bake Sale to our Spring Fling Book Sale so be sure to save a couple bucks for that!

We’re on Facebook! Add us to get updates on programs, give us feedback on what you’d like to see the library do, or just to show your support! Spread the word!

Tax forms are at the library! So far we have Federal forms and by the end of this week we should have State forms as well as 2009 Rent Rebate forms and instruction booklets. Call ahead first to be sure as the State hasn’t given us an exact date that we will be receiving them.

Hope everyone has a safe and happy Valentine’s Day!
