Come to the Third Annual Clarion County Library System Auction!!!

The Clarion County Library System greatly needs your support! This November 7th will mark the Third Annual Clarion County Live & Silent Auction at the American Legion in Clarion, PA! Each year the CCLS puts on an Evening of Bidding, Mingling, and Music in efforts to raise money for the Summer Reading Programs of the five libraries of the county. Thanks to all the wonderful attendees and bidders last year each library was able to obtain over $700 in proceeds! Those funds greatly helped the libraries purchase supplies like books, t-shirts, activity items, and snacks for the kids, as well as prizes and awards for the end of the summer.

The evening will begin with appetizers, a cash bar, and then the auction. So far there are a myriad of items to be auctioned off including stools, benches, boxes, chairs, windows, and more! Each item is hand-painted by artists from around the area in accordance with a theme from a chosen children’s book. You can imagine some of the great works of art this blend of craftiness produces! And just think! You could own one!

Following the auction a DJ will be providing great music so you can dance the night away! Doors will open Friday, November 7th at 6:30 PM and the Auction will begin at 7:30 PM. Tickets can be purchased from any of the 5 libraries in the county for just $10 per person. This cost includes admittance, refreshments, and great entertainment! If you’re all booked up that night but still want to support your local libraries and children’s reading programs feel free to stop by your local library and donate $10 for a ticket. Your community will thank you! If you have any questions contact Jessica Modrzejewski, System Administrator at 226-6340!

Don’t forget about our first Teen Book Discussion group in the month of October! Lit & Latte is scheduled for 3:30 pm on Monday, October 27th. Sharon Custer, our Reference and Technical Librarian, will lead a discussion on the book Peak by Roland Smith. There’s still a few days to come pick up a copy of the novel and sign up for Monday’s discussion!

The Eccles-Lesher Memorial Library still needs several vendors for our Christmas in November weekend! Each year vendors come and set up tables of goods and wares to sell, raffle off chances to win prizes, and provide all kinds of information on local merchants. This year we still have many open tables available. The cost is $10 a day or $25 for three days starting Thursday, November 6th, lasting until Saturday, November 8th. Please contact the library at 473-3800 if you are interested. If you know someone who might be interested pass this information along to them!

Don’t forget about our newest activity group: The Clickers! Ever wanted to learn how to knit or crochet? Are you currently working on knitting or crocheting projects? Perhaps you have a few pearls of wisdom about these fun activities that you’d like to share? If you can answer yes to any of these questions then you should set the date of October 27th aside! Come hang out with us at 6:30 pm for the Clickers! This is a new group that’s open to all ages to come and hang out at the library and work on fun projects. If you have any questions call Nancy or Judy at the library at 473-3800.

November Adult Book Discussion - We will be discussing The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. This novel follows the story of Amir, the privileged son of a wealthy businessman in Kabul, and Hassan, the son of Amir's father's servant. As children in the relatively stable Afghanistan of the early 1970s, the boys are inseparable. They spend idyllic days running kites and telling stories of mystical places and powerful warriors until an unspeakable event changes the nature of their relationship forever, and eventually cements their bond in ways neither boy could have ever predicted. Even after Amir and his father flee to America, Amir remains haunted by his cowardly actions and disloyalty. In part, it is these demons and the sometimes impossible quest for forgiveness that bring him back to his war-torn native land after it comes under Taliban rule. The library still has several copies of this book available for a small donation of $10. The discussion questions are conveniently located in the back of the book! Pick up a copy and join us on Thursday, November 13th at 7 PM right here in the Eccles-Lesher Memorial Library Community Room.

The holiday season is quickly approaching. Need a great unique way to show someone you care? Place a book in honor of them here at the library! All you need is a minimal donation of $25 and a special plate will be placed inside the book of your choice. You can also specify certain subject matter such as family, music, etc., and let the library choose a great title for you! We also offer Memorial Bricks for $100 donations. What better way to acknowledge a library or book lover than to have their name permanently displayed on our Commemorative Wall right at the heart of our library?

Computer Classes running

The library and the Clarion County Literacy Council are currently partnering to offer basic computer literacy classes to the public. At this time, there are 3 classes running: Mondays from 12-2 and from 2-4, and Tuesdays from 2-4.

The library computer lab is closed to the public during these classes, and the teachers are provided by the Literacy Council, with the aid of one of the members of the Rimersburg Friends of the Library, Lesa Byers.

Anyone interested in these classes should contact the Clarion County Literacy Council at 814-226-4626
